Northern Alliance Round Up 26/03/11

Stocksfield have taken just two points from a possible 21 in their last seven games and a 5-0 defeat at Killingworth has sucked them into the relegation battle.

Goals from Jorge Bollardo, Carl Common, Liam Callaghan, Paul Dunn and an own goal saw them crash to a side that they beat 2-0 at home back in October.

Murton are now breathing down their necks and were just seconds from securing three valuable points at Ashington Colliers when Sean McAfferty grabbed a stoppage time equaliser to cancel out Tom Wilkie’s opener.

Cramlington Town went down 4-1 at home to Seaton Delaval Amateurs and need to start picking up points if they are to avoid the drop.

Steven Anderson, Steve Howes, Craig cook and an own goal completed the delaval tally with Kieran Parsons on target for Town.

Ponteland United stretched their lead at the top to five points with a 3-0 win at Walker Cenral, who are also near the drop zone but have games in hand.

Glenn Ford headed in Andrew Davidson’s cross for the opener and Davidson curled in a free kick for the second.

Harry Tulip volleyed in number three after the break but the victory wasn’t as easy as it looked with Central’s Liam Mulligan and Harfer Alao both rattled the crossbar.

Carlisle City drew 0-0 at Gateshead Rutherford and Harraby CC have were held to a 1-1 draw by Heaton Stannington. Adam Donaghey shot Heaton in front in the 26^th minute and Steve Archibald equalised mid-way through the second half.

Mark Andrews headed Blyth Town in front after just four minutes against Shankhouse but Ant Moran equalised right on half time.

Wark led twice against Percy Main but went down 3-2. Mark Elliott put them ahead but Malcolm Morien levelled from the penalty spot.

Thomas McAlindon made it 2-1 to Wark, but Main hit back and Morien sent Jonathon McEnaney clear shoot home before netting the winner himself with 13 minutes to go.

Newcastle University’s Edward Houlton scored the only goal of the game as they surprised Heddon 1-0 in the Combination Cup semi final.

They will face Hebburn Reyrolle in the Final as late goals from Michael Younger and Alan Pegram saw them beat Whitley Bay A 2-0. Younger struck in the 75^th minute and Pegram’s 83^rd minute penalty sealed the win.

Gareth Armstrong and David Fairless hit two apiece for Cullercoats as they beat North Shields Athletic 4-1 to close the gap at the top. Steve Cherry scored the consolation.

Arostote Guerin grabbed the winner for South Shields United as they moved up to fifth with a 2-1 win over Wallington. Jordan Nellis put Wallington in front in the 25^th minute but an own goal levelled things up before Geurin struck.

Amble United’s Darren Riddell netted a double in a 2-2 draw at Gosforth Bohemian,  Tavis Couling and an own goal making the replies.

Newcastle East End’s Andy Graham was another player to score a double as they beat basement side Forest Hall 4-3 with Anthony Studholme and Dean Bell also on the scoresheet.

Adam Shanks netted a hat-trick for Stobswood Welfare and still ended up on the losing side.

Berwick United’s Michael Cornish hit a hat-trick himself as the goals were flying in in an eleven goal thriller. Craig Heugh, Martin Tait and Jamie Punton also netted in the 7-4 victory while Matthew Graham got the other for Stobswood.

Morpeth Sports had Mark Armstrong, Curtis Tait and Scott Bowman on target in a 3-0 success at Peterlee Town.

Newcastle Chemfica Independent’s Steve McLaughlin hit a hat-trick as they went back to the top of the table with a 5-0 victory over basement side Wideopen with Alex Pooley adding the other two.

Wallsend Town’s Sean Reid, Mickey Pooley, Craig Burke, Mickey Rankin and Paul McUtchon all scored as they ran out 5-0 winners at Whitley Bay Town.

Third=placed Simonside SC won 4-3 at Seaton Burn. Eric Thompson, Steven Graham(2) and Quinn scored with Ian Armstrong (penalty) and Nicky Hara (2) on target for the home side.

Swalwell’s Joe Johnson took just 30 seconds to fire them ahead at Wallsend Boys Club when pumped a long free kick forward from his own half that ended up in the back of the net. Rob Hanley levelled, but Darren Turbitt put them back in front before Scott Lynas found a second equaliser.

Cramlington United were just seconds from a famous 2-1 win over Tynemouth United when Anthony Brown levelled.

David Thompson’s spectacular chip from the half way line looked to have won it but Brown equalised deep into added time.

Glen Johnson scored twice, once from the penalty spot, for Willington Quay Saints in a 4-1 at Hexham

Colin Bell and Wesley Fidler added the others with Thomas North hitting the consolation.

Northbank were left heartbroken as they were beaten 2-0 by Netherhall in the Cumberland County Senior Cup semi-final. Keith Anderson netted a double for the West Cumbrian County League Champions.
