Premier Division
It remains tight at the top of the table as both Amble
United and Heaton Stannington claimed maximum points.
Sean Taylor controlled a long ball and dinked in the only
goal for the Seasiders against Stocksfield.
The United striker also hit the woodwork with a second half
header, as did his team-mate Rikki Hume while Jonathon Wright cut in to drill
home the first for Heaton against Ashington Colliers.
Mark Davison’s cool volley into the roof of the net doubled
the advantage and Andrew Weeks tucked away the third from a Wright centre.
Harraby United are breathing down their necks, however, and
they went ahead at Walker Central when 17-year-old Kyle Metcalfe thundered one
in from 35 yards. Peter ferris made the points safe late on with a run from his
own half before beating a couple of defenders, rounding the keeper and slotting
home from a narrow angle.
Wallsend
Town’s Paul McHutcheon
crashed in a hat-trick as they leapfrogged Shankhouse. Chris Garwood and Andy
Wilson also celebrated scoring with Jake Turnbull on hand for the consolation.
Graeme Troghton’s shot was deflected into the Hebburn
Reyrolle net to give Percy Main the advantage, but the visitors hit back to
claim their first point when Robert Allan was sent tumbling in the box by
Villagers’ keeper Rob MacGregor.
The number one was dismissed, and Allan stepped up to make
no mistake from the spot.
Daniel Maguire struck twice in Seaton Delaval’s victory at Rutherford – the second coming just seven minutes from
time. Alan Mulholland hit netted a debut goal for the hosts, who remain rooted
to the foot of the table.
Both Blyth
Town and Whitley Bay A
created chances but couldn’t apply the decisive touch as it ended in a
stalemate that maintained Town’s unbeaten start.
Cumberland FA Senior Cup First Round
Simon Tucker holds Annan Athletic’s record for goals in a
game after hitting NINE during a 14-1 drubbing of Abbey Vale in 1997.
The Carlisle City striker must have thought that he was on for a
similar goalscoring feat when the Sky Blues swamped County League
outfit Penrith Saints in the first round of the Cumberland Senior Cup.
However, the much travelled hit-man had to settle for six,
with on-fire strike partner Sean Bannon netting four for his third successive
hat-trick.
Brandon Longcake and Jamie Heath also netted trebles while
Tom Short marked his return from a spell coaching in the USA by firing
in another to complete a 17-0 drubbing.
Division One
Northbank and Cramlington
Town both slipped up but
maintained the top places.
Form side Bedlington Terriers Reserves condemned Town to
their first defeat as they struck five times. Robbie Eastway netted two with
Stu Melville, David Scott and Dylan Williamson getting the others while Andy
Miller, James Armstrong and David Mason struck at the other end.
Northbank’s six game winning streak was also ended by
Heddon, who went ahead through Perry Veitch. John Calvert levelled for the
Cumbrians, but Heddon went straight up the other end and hit the winner through
Richard Darwent.
Red House Farm also lost for the first time in a thrilling
clash at Wallington. Jordan Nellis’s double helped the Greens to an important
win with Josh Gilmartin and Mark Jewitt getting the others. Patrick Collins, Jack
Brogden and Nathan Winter crashed in for the Farm.
Craig Cook (2), Paul Ford and Marc Findlay all scored as
Ponteland United secured three points at Newcastle Chemfica, who had Steven
Spence and Steve McLaughlin on the scoresheet.
Steven Hart (2) and Sean Smith (2) netted to give
Cullercoats an emphatic win at Willington Quay Saints and Paul McLean and Liam
Heenan found the net for Hexham at Gateshead Redheugh.
Darren Cambell and Travis Couling celebrated two each for
Gosforth Bohs as they put the skids on Morpeth Town A.
Joe Collins and Patrick O’Donahue completed the scoring for
the Gosforth side with Darren Percy and Matty Robinson the Town scorers.
Goals from Dan Sherliker and Dan McDonald for Forest Hall
were cancelled out by Mick Spencer and Tom Stapleton for visitors Newcastle Uni
to give them their first point.
Division Two
Wallsend Boys Club were knocked off top spot as improving
Newcastle Benfield Reserves pulled of a surprise.
The warning signs were there as Benfield gave Premier
Division Ashington Colliers a real game in the League Cup recently.
A double from Aiden Bell and a Steven Thomson strike gave
them the spoils, with Steve McCabe and Liam Stubbs replying.
Scott Jasper’s late winner put North Shields Athletic into
pole position. Ben Pollock had shot them ahead at New Fordley, but Lee Waugh
levelled.
James Bowman and Lee Cuthbertson both struck twice for
Birtley Saint Josephs as they hit eight against Cramlington United. Goals from
Martin Guy, Anthony Smith, Jack Pearson and Tony Smith made up the tally.
Chris Watson grabbed four for Swalwell in a thrilling
ten-goal draw with Longbenton. Jack Gibson got the other and as the game swung
from end to end, David Short (2), Adam Brown, Martin Reynolds and Connor
Cavanagh netted for the Bulls.
Lee Howey and Jack Greenwell bagged braces for Seaton Burn
as they hit Grainger
Park for six. Chris Baker
and David Hewitt got the others and Paul Gibson replied.
A James Scott penalty just before the break gave Wooler the
points at Wideopen and Alnwick Town Reserves’ in-form striker Stephen Hutchins
grabbed the only goal of the game at Blyth Isabella.
Scott Dodds hit two for High Howdon SC as they drew with
Alston, whose scorers were Nathan Fraser and Joseph Wright.
