Northern Alliance round-up 25/05/13



Malcolm Morien smashed in a hat-trick – and missed a penalty - as runners-up Blyth Town signed off in style.
Town got off to a dream start at Harraby United when Jason Ritchie got on the end of a cross to hit home after just 3 minutes. Morien added the second just five minutes later as he fired home from 20 yards.
Harraby’s Stuart Bell forced Town keeper Scott Earle into making two good saves as they looked to get back in it and Ashley Combe pulled one back with a header from a corner in the 37th minute.
But Blyth, who have only been beaten once in the League all season, were in no mood to let things slip and  increased their lead on the hour when Morien again let fly from outside the box. Morien completed his fine treble seven minutes later when he beat two defenders and coolly slotted home from 12 yards.
Stuart Bell pulled one back from the penalty spot in the 70th minute, with Morien raising his eyebrows skywards as he missed one at the other end soon after.
Bell volleyed home from 15 yards with four minutes to go but Blyth soaked up the pressure and took the three points.
Cameron Wilson was another hat-trick hero in Northbank’s win over Forest Hall in Division One. Chris Major and Mark Lightfoot got the others with Mark Patterson and Dieu Lomana netting replies.
Richard Kent netted a late winner for Ponteland United after visitors Newcastle Uni had twice got back on level terms. Glen Ford gave Ponteland the lead three minutes after the break, but Watson levelled in the 55th minute. Jack L’Argent restored the black and whites’ lead in the 75th minute - only for Tom Stapleton to crash in three minutes later. Kent netted five minutes from time.
Rob Jefferson and Shaun Sagar both thumped in trebles as Grainger Park hit Wideopen for six in Division Two. Lee Shickle hit a consolation.
Seaton Burn’s Nicky Hara was another who fancied a claim on a match ball with a first half hat-trick against High Howdon. The visitors salvaged a point, however, through a Dean Blacklock strike and two late goals from Nicky Whitelaw and Alex Nesbit.
James Jackson and J Brown both bagged braces for Alnwick Town Reserves in their win at Alston, who hit back through Jake Shepherd (2) and Jason Williams while Swalwell had Craig Wood and Michael Wilson on target in their win over Blyth Isabella, who scored through Matthew Lavender.
Defences were on top as it ended goalless between Newcastle Benfield reserves and Wooler.

Pin Point Recruitment Bill Gardner Memorial Trophy Final

Paul Gordon netted twice as Wallsend Town retained the Bill Gardner Memorial Trophy at Purvis Park.
The game exploded into life after a goalless opening period when Gordon headed home just a minute after the break.
Walker levelled ten minutes later when substitute Anthony Lowry’s cross-shot flew into the corner of the net.
Town went back in front in the 71st minute when Chris Garwood rose to power in a header from a corner and seven minutes later they extended their lead as Gordon crashed in a shot from inside the box.
The game was set up for an exciting last six minutes when Paul Collinson reduced the deficit from the penalty spot, but Wallsend held out to lift the trophy for the second successive season.

Northern Alliance Round Up 18/05/13


Amble United’s campaign ended on a high with a victory – but it was tinged with sadness as the club announced that it was quitting the Northern Alliance and folding.
Darren Riddell’s 20 yard lob with cancelled out by a double from Wallsend Town’s James Garwood, but David King pounced on a loose ball to level.
Matty Graham then thumped a 30-yarder into the roof of the net and Sean Taylor completed the scoring as he drilled into the bottom corner.
Heaton Stannington’s Gary Yates netted a double at Ashington Colliers and Anthony Johnson claimed the other in a cracking game that ended all square with Glen Bolton, David Brown and Shaun Gibson on target for the Colliers.
Michael Bowman’s solo strike and another from Jordan Fry put Killingworth Sporting ahead at Percy Main, who hit back with a Scott Pocklington penalty. Pocklington then volleyed in the equaliser a minute later from a corner.
Cullercoats hit six as they lifted themselves out of the Division One danger zone against Newcastle Chemfica Independent, who replied through Craig Robinson (2) and Garrick Murphy-Collins.
Goals from Morpeth Town A’s Gavin Agnew and Brian Barclay gave them the lead at the break against Heddon. But the Craik Park youngsters, who are also quitting the Alliance at the end of the season, couldn’t hold out and John Pearson struck twice to snatch a point.
Anthony Smith, Lee Cutherbertson and Dan Waller were on the scoresheet in the opening period for Birtley Saint Josephs at Longbenton.
They were given a few nervy moments when the Bulls hit back twice in two minutes from Robert Woods and David Hetherington, but captain Martin Guy eased the pressure with a fourth that takes the club to within a point of promotion to Division One.

Northern Alliance Round Up 11/05/13


Kevin Carr was the Heaton Stannington hero with the only goal at Blyth Town.
Striker Carr pounced to put the loose ball into the back of the net during a first half goalmouth scramble, which took the black and white’s to within a point of back-to-back Titles – and finally broke Town’s impressive 27-game unbeaten record.
Dave King’s back post header for Amble United was cancelled out by Darren Walsh’s strike for Killingworth Sporting. Rikki Hume slipped in from a narrow angle to restore United’s lead but Michael Bowman levelled again from the penalty spot.
Sean Taylor hit the winner for the Seasiders in the 85th minute.
Whitley Bay A’s Ryan Keltie also hit a late goal at Harraby United, heading an equaliser from an 87th minute corner.
The Seahorses led through a deflected Josh Day shot that went in off defender Ashley Coombe’s head, but the Cumbrians turned things around with a Lee Otway drive and Peter Ferris tap in before Keltie struck.
Rikki James struck twice to put Carlisle City in charge against Ashington Colliers but two in quick succession just before the break from Joe Moscrop, with a long range drive, and a Michael Hogg header made it all square.
Alex benjamin’s header for Seaton Delaval was cancelled out by a penalty from Wallsend Town’s Gav Jones.
The Division One title race heated up as Wallington slipped up at home to Cramlington Town. David Mason, Mark Waite and Paul Joicse netted for the visitors with Justin Millican and Josh Gilmartin scoring for the Greens.
Red House Farm’s Zak Brogden struck twice in the final ten minutes as they kept their title hopes alive with a win over Morpeth Town A, who netted through Anthony Coxon. Martin Soulsby and Lee Brady got the others for Farm, with Town keeper David Hanson having a superb game between the sticks.
Joe Bell and John Dewhurst both struck twice for Gateshead Redheugh as they hit seven at Forest Hall. Kev Hay, Ryan Davenport and Mark Innes got the others, with Alex Gomez and Dieu Lomana replying. Daniel Sneap hit a hat-trick as Cullercoats gave themselves hope of beating the drop with a surprise 5-2 win over in-form Bedlington Terriers Reserves. Jonathon Ranson and Sean Smith got the others.
Willington Quay Saints signed off with a win over Hexham, John Foggett hitting the only goal from the penalty spot, while Newcastle Uni’s Jake Salisbury and Johnny Sexton netted as they beat Ponteland United 2-1.
Cameron Wilson (2) and Mark Worral scored for Northbank in their 3-1 success against Heddon and Bohemians had Travis Couling, Alex Kennedy, Paul Dixon and Patrick O’Donaghie on target at Newcastle Chemfica, who netted through Ian Hutchinson and Tito Davison.
Goals from Tom Cowx, Scott Jasper, Matty Donkin and Anthony Keith sparked the North Shields Athletic Championship party.
Promotion challengers Birtley Saint Joseph’s netted through James Bowman but they couldn’t put a dampener on Athletic’s celebrations.
New Fordley had Lee Moffet (2) and Dan Young on target but still slipped to defeat at Alnwick Town Reserves, who fired in from Stephen Hutchins (2), James Jackson and Ross Moore.
Jeff Fuller and Billy Olechnowicz scored for Blyth Isabella as they beat Alston and Chrissy Robinson, Carl Kirkpatrick, Robert Jefferson and Shaun Sager crashed in for Grainger Park in a seven-goal thriller at High Howdon, who replied through Nicky Whitelaw, who plundered a hat-trick.
Dave Hewitt and Chris Baker scored in Seaton Burn’s win at Newcastle Benfield Reserves, who had Stephen Thompson on target, while Louis Ellis netted for Swalwell against Wooler, who had James Scott fire home.
It also ended 1-1 at Wallsend Boys Club, who had Scott Lowery celebrating, with Michael Jordan crashing in for visitors Cramlington United.

The Pin Point Recruitment Amateur Cup Final

Birtley Saint Joseph’s lifted the Pin Pint Recruitment Amateur Cup with a goal in each half against Blyth Isabella.
Saint Joe’s sharpshooter Damien Stevens made it 1-0 when struck home on the volley from just inside the box in the 15th minute and James Bowman added the second with a header from a free kick in the 66th minute to take the trophy.

Northern Alliance Round Up 04/05/13


Heaton Stannington’s Gary Dixon, Lee Johnson and Jonathon Wright were all on target in a victory over Amble United that keeps them on track for back-to-back titles and promotion to the Northern League.
Blyth Town kept up the pressure as Craig Hopwood hit the only goal and they survived a late penalty appeal scare at Whitley Bay A while Chris Hall netted a double and Richard Lally the other in Stocksfield’s comfortable win at Killingworth Sporting.
Dean Armstrong’s header went in off the woodwork to put Harraby United ahead against Ashington Colliers and Peter Ferris rounded the keeper to add a second before Ross Dixon hit a consolation lob and Carlisle City’s Stuart Kilgour, Brandon Longcake and Martin Shepherd stretched the back of the Percy Main net in a win that saw the visitors reduced to ten men and pull one back through Chris Bell.
Wallington’s title hopes in Division One took a slight dent as they went down to a heavy defeat at Newcastle Uni, who had Tom Stapleton (2), Joe Watson and Jesse Walkin on target while Red House Farm reduced their lead to seven points as Mark Sheeran bagged a brace at Redheugh with Shane Brooks and Zack Brogden also on target, Scott Robson and Ben Howell chalking up for the home side.
Jordan Watson hit four in Cramlington Town’s big win over Forest Hall. James Bell and Ryan Hutchinson also scored with Danny McDonald hitting a late consolation.
Tito Davison, Chris Homans, Steve McLaughlin and a stoppage time winner from Garrick Murphy-Collins gave Chemfica the points at Ponteland United who struck through Andrew Davidson, Liam Anderson and Billy Holden while a Cameron Wilson hat-trick saw Northbank take three points at Willington Quay Saints, Jonathon McGarva hit the other and Mark Henderson pulled one back.
Anthony Addison, Thomas Barton and Gavin Agnew were on the scoresheet for Morpeth Town A but visitors Hexham were victorious with goals from Paul McLean, Scott Canham, Liam Heenan and Neil Tiffin.
Dan Child, Stephen Salter, Alex Kennedy and Tavis Couling netted for Bohs as they saw off Cullercoats and Heddon hit three to win at Bedlington Terriers Reserves, who struck twice through Michael Grieves.
North Shields Athletic took a big step towards the Division Two title with goals from Thomas Gibson and Sean Millington at Wideopen while New Fordley hit-man Lee Waugh banged in a treble at High Howdon. Daniel Young also celebrated with Scott Dodds replying.
Wooler had James Guthrie and James Jeffries on target but they were held by Cramlington United, who notched through Daniel Gray and Niall Younger and Alwick Town Reserves also drew with Grainger Park, Stephen Hogg and Lee Armstrong’s strikes for the Northumbrians being cancelled out by a Kirk Fleming double.
Longbenton’s Kevin Gordon was a sharpshooter with four in a ten goal thriller against Alston.
Robert Woods chipped in with a brace and Jamie Wright, Jason Williams, Callum James and Gareth Hayton plundered goals for the Cumbrians.
Michael Starkie got both of Wallsend Boys Club’s goals at Newcastle Benfield Reserves from set-pieces with Steven Thompson pulling one back and Swalwell celebrated a win against Seaton Burn with Micky Hara banging in two and Chris Watson grabbing the other. Ben Dixon and Craig Wood scored for the visitors.
