Northern Alliance Round-Up 26/11/11

Murton grabbed a lifeline at the foot of the table as they made Ashington Colliers sweat for a point.
The Colliers had trounced their hosts 9-2 in the Kicks Leisure George Dobbins League Cup just seven days previously, so must have fancied their chances of keeping up the pressure at the top.
But they went behind to a Luke Wallace strike in the tenth minute and although Jamie Patterson levelled in the 30th minute, Mike Fortune netted five minutes before the break to give the battling home side the advantage.
Patterson was on target again to level in the 55th minute, but Murton held out for the point that moves them level on points with two other clubs in the basement.
Gateshead Rutherford are looking over their shoulder after being sucked into the relegation battle with their 3-1 home defeat by Killingworth Sporting.
First half strikes from Micky Bowman and Paul Baird gave third-placed Sporting the advantage and although Shaun Todhunter pulled one back, Terry Goicochea netted a third.
Heaton Stannington’s new signing Jonathon Wright moved from Seaton Delaval this week and it took him just half an hour to make his mark, racing through to lob the ponteland United keeper for the opener.

Stocksfield won the all-Premier affair against Walker Central with goals from subs Steve Forster and Ben Pearson, with Paul Collinson grabbing a late reply, while Whitley Bay A adavanced with goals from Ian Lee, Ryan Keltie, Michael McMullen and Andrew Charlton against Cullercoats. Robert Watson notched a consolation.
Morpeth SC created a number of chances against bogey side Heddon, but found the visitors keeper in inspired form and fell behind in the 40th minute to an Andrew Lee Davidson goal.
Perry Veitch added a killer second five minutes after the break and although Joe Danqhuar pulled one back, an own goal with five minutes left and a Tony Wigham strike in stoppage time sent Heddon through.
Amble United extended their lead at the top of Division One to four points with a game in hand as they netted six times against basement side Forest Hall.

Charles Illogu and Dan Clements led the way with two each and they were joined on the score sheet by Adam Fearn, Nathan Campbell, Adam Ball and Josh Davison.
It ended all-square in the top of the table clash at Harton and Westoe, with David Bulman netting for the Colliery and Rob Nolan on target for leaders Red House Farm.
Wallsend Boys Club moved into second spot as red-hot Dylan Adamson hit the only goal of the game at Swalwell and goals mid-way through the second half from Andrew Bruce and Chris Holt earned Wideopen the three points against North Shields Athletic.
Reece Allman’s early opener for Seaton Burn was quickly cancelled out by New Fordley’s Lee Waugh and that set the tone for a seven-goal thriller.
Daniel Young’s double put New Fordley on top and when Louis Boddy added a fourth it looked game over.
But Nicky Hara and David Hewitt fired in to give New Fordley a scare and leave them sweating in the last ten minutes for the points.

Northern Alliance Round Up 12/11/11

Heaton Stannington must have feared the worst when Seaton Delaval were awarded a penalty deep into stoppage time with the score deadlocked at 1-1.

He jogged up and was left with his head in his hands as he blazed it over the bar, preserving the visitor’s top spot.

FA Inter-League Cup Report

FA Inter League Cup First Round
Northern Alliance 1 Yorkshire Amateur 2 (after extra time)

The Angel was looking the other way when the Northern Alliance needed her most at the Dunston UTS Stadium.
Luck certainly wasn’t on the League’s side as substitute Barry Frankland came off the bench to grab a late double that sent the Alliance crashing out of the FA Inter League Cup.
Frankland, who plays for Stanningley, ensured that the White Rose representative outfit were celebrating as he headed in a late equaliser then snapped up the winner in the first period of extra time.
The Alliance, who were represented by players from Harraby CC and Carlisle City, certainly didn’t disgrace themselves in the prestigious competition as they bossed the first half.
With the Yorkshire defence looking hesitant in the opening minutes, Darren Addison shot just wide and Chris Ferrie warmed the visiting keeper’s gloves with a 20-yarder soon after.
And when Dan Balmer sent over a high, looping cross that saw the keeper and a defender clatter into each other, Giuseppe Amato reacted quickest and smashed the loose ball into the net from close range for the opener in the 14th minute.
Within minutes Amato almost added a second when his back post half-volley from 12 yards shaved the bar and flew over.
Yorkshire nearly got back into the game in the 34th minute as Alliance keeper Adam Bradley was at full stretch to keep out a 20 yard free kick and he then reacted smartly to dive and turn away a shot from the rebound.
Ferrie then had the Yorkshire keeper scrambling to turn his 25-yard free kick around the post as the Alliance finished the first half brightly.
Midfields were very much on top in the second period but as they game went into its final twenty minutes, it began to open up.
Frankland fired over the angle of bar and post and at the other end Rob Bainbridge fired straight at the keeper when he had other options.
Carl Murphy beat the visitor’s keeper with a measured chip but had his head in his hands as it agonisingly bounced back into the grateful stoppers arms.
Yorkshire turned up the pressure in the last ten minutes and were rewarded when they were wrongly awarded a corner that saw Frankland rise highest at the far post to head home. So much for the protective qualities of the Angel, then.
And although Andy Rogerson went close with a header and a volley, the Alliance were dealt a cruel blow in stoppage time when Matthew Bell dipped his head towards the keeper as he climbed over him to catch the ball from a corner and was shown a straight red card.
Yorkshire made the extra man count and in the 12th minute of the first period of extra time Frankland went clear and slipped the ball past the advancing Bradley for the winner.
So it is Yorkshire Amateur who will now visit the Isle of Man League in the second round of the competition, the winners of which go on to represent England in the Uefa Regions Cup.

Northern Alliance Round Up 22/10/11

The Northern Alliance was just ten minutes away from a trip to the Isle of Man when a corner was slung over and Yorkshire Amateur League sub Barry Frankland headed an equaliser.
Frankland went on to hit the winner for the Yorkshiremen nine minutes into the first period of extra time of a hard-fought FA Inter League Cup first round tie at Dunston UTS Stadium.
Giuseppe Amato took full advantage of a defensive mix-up to give the Alliance, represented by Harraby CC, a 14th minute lead, calmly slipping into the empty net.
But the Alliance were always going to find it tough going after they had a player sent for an early bath and Frankland’s late header levelled things up – before his extra time winner.
Gary Dixon rose to power in a late header for leaders Heaton Stannington as they drew with Ashington Colliers, who had gone in front just before the break as Joe Moscrop fired home.
Killingworth Sporting’s Liam Callaghan also used his head as he grabbed a hat-trick at Percy Main. Steven Robinson headed in the opener at the back post and two minutes later Callaghan leapt to head in number two.
Callaghan nodded in the third after the break and completed his treble with a penalty fired into the roof of the net. Tony Abladey scored a consolation spot-kick in injury time.
Jonathon Wright was also successful from the spot as he gave Seaton Delaval the lead against Hebburn Reyrolle.
Despite having Selso Anjos sent-off, ten-man Delaval dug deep and further goals from Wright and Grant Kershaw secured the win.
Goals from Alex Redfern, David McDonald and Stewart Wright gave Whitley Bay A a win over Stocksfield, who had Steven Forster on target, while Sean Todhunter shot Rutherford ahead at Blyth Town after just sixty seconds.
Danny Beresford levelled right on half time and when he was flattened in the box with ten minutes to go, Craig Hopwood fired in the winner.
John Dunn and Sam Holman scored in each half as Ponteland United beat Shankhouse and Martin Peace hit the only goal of the game for Murton at Walker Central, who were unlucky not to level when they rattled the bar.
Amble United went back to the top of Division One as Brent Aisbett hit a double at rivals Wallsend Town.
The Seasiders’ Darren Riddell broke the deadlock and although Sean Reid levelled, Aisbett’s late strikes secured the three precious points.
Dan Thompson’s effort for Wallington wasn’t enough as strikes from Heddon’s Steven Satterthwaite and Haydon Gilmour moved them to within a point of their hosts while goals from Iain Harris, Darren Campbell and Andy Renton eased Bohemians to the win against Newcastle Uni.
Kevin Long’s own goal gave Cullercoats the lead at Cramlington Town and although Danny Olson levelled, Michael Gill grabbed the winner after a long delay when his team-mate Daniel Sneap broke his collarbone and was taken to hospital.

Northbank’s Cameron Wilson also netted a double as they beat Whickham Lang Jacks 2-1. Ryan Lowes scored for the visitors.

The game at Seaton Burn also ended in a draw after Robbie Smith had shot Bedlington Terriers reserves ahead.
